Honda Focuses on Electric and Hybrid Vehicles for Future Lineups

February 9th, 2017 by

2017 Honda Accord Hybrid Exterior Night BlueGasoline is convenient and usually pretty affordable, but we know it’s not going to last forever. That’s why we are excited to announce that Honda’s future plans focus on electrified vehicles and other alternative fuel options. Current Honda hybrid vehicles like the Accord Hybrid and the CR-Z show drivers that hybrid cars can be fun to drive while remaining a practical, smart choice. And the future only looks greener for Honda.

The Future of Alternative Fuel Honda Vehicles

At Central Illinois Honda Dealers, we’ve always been fans of Honda’s selection of hybrid models, from the first time the Insight arrived until today, but Honda just announced some plans to expand their alternative fuel options in the future. Here’s what to expect in the next two years:

  • A New Hybrid: Honda will be producing a brand-new hybrid vehicle, made here in the United States and set to launch in 2018. Nothing else has been revealed, which has us asking if it’s going to be a car, a crossover, or a minivan.
  • Hybrid Pickup: Honda is adding its two-motor hybrid system to a light-duty pickup truck in the near future, boosting performance with the immediate torque response that comes from an electric motor.
  • Electrified Vehicles: In addition to the new hybrid and the pickup, Honda has committed to producing more alternative vehicles in the future, promising over half of the models in the next two years will be electrified.

Between these models and the goals for the Clarity Fuel Cell, Honda is painting a much brighter, much greener future. In announcing the automaker’s new direction, President and CEO Takahiro Hachigo said, “In the long term, electrified vehicles are key to the future of carbon-free mobility.”

We couldn’t agree more.

To get an idea of what the future might bring, Honda is basing quite a bit of it around the two-motor hybrid system of the 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid. Accord Hybrid models offer more power than the standard Accord Sedan and earn an EPA-estimated 49 city mpg and 47 highway mpg.*
